Modeling and design tools for small antennas: state-of-the-art and future perspectives

Context
During the last 10 years the Software WG, in cooperation with the Software Vendors, has finished quite some benchmarking cycles. One of the antennas benchmarked was the GSM antenna. The final result of all this benchmarking for this specific antenna is very briefly described in the report about the convened session organized in Davos, Switzerland (published in the AP Magazine).
The main conclusions are the following: all software results agree reasonably well, and all measurement results also agree reasonably well, but simulations and measurements do not agree that well. At the end of the session, it was agreed that we would perform a last benchmarking cycle for this antenna.
The major improvements with respect to the previous cycle would be:
1. we upgrade the connector description and also incorporate a piece of feeding cable in the simulations, 2. we transfer the complete structure, including this piece of actual feeding cable (in a fixed position) from measurement lab to measurement lab. KU Leuven will make all the necessary preparations for this.
The format of the Scientific Workshop is
- to report on the results of this effort, both simulations (20’) and measurements (20’),
- to have an extensive discussion on the results, both with the software vendors and the user community (40’),
to define the next steps in the proces (20’).
